WhatsApp helps users identify and leave suspicious group chats

WhatsApp's Logo

Calling all WhatsApp users: A new feature is rolling out globally to help you avoid unwanted group chats. This update aims to protect you from potential spam or scam activity.

When you're added to a group chat by someone you don't know, you'll now see a "context card" before joining. This card displays key details like who created the group, when it was created, and a description. It also crucially reveals if the person who added you is in your contact list.

This information empowers you to make informed decisions. You can easily leave the group if it seems suspicious, or learn more about WhatsApp's safety tools with a provided link.

Similar to how WhatsApp handles individual messages from unknown contacts, this feature aims to give you more control over your group chat experience. You'll be able to avoid unwanted interactions and identify potentially fraudulent activity more quickly.
